Our coffee maker is a jewel February 5, 2005 John Munson (Westlake Village, California United States) 82 out of 85 found this review helpful
There are just two of us so a large 10 cup machine is not practical so we bought this beautiful little machine for our kitchen. To date it has worked flawlwessly, everything the Ad professed. I wonder about the missuse some others have experienced that have caused them problems. We have had none of that.. I do wish there was a permanent filter available, I don't like the paper ones. But small price to pay for excellance
The perfect coffee maker for one or two people July 13, 2005 J. Ernst (Philadelphia, PA) 42 out of 42 found this review helpful
I have had this machine for a little over a week now, and am overjoyed. I have owned more expensive "full-size" machines, and have always found that the quality of the coffee they make is quite poor when you are only preparing three or four cups. This cuisinart is a pleasant change on that score. The coffee I made this morning was flavorful and hot, and certainly better than what I can get at Starbucks or the equivalent. I'm a bit baffled by the negative comments I have read about the machine's design. I've had not even a little trouble with pouring, removing the lid, etc. In short, get this machine if you want high quality coffee in three or four cup doses.
A decent coffee maker December 13, 2005 Chloe Grrl (Texas) 43 out of 44 found this review helpful
As a student, my coffee pot is my life-blood. I adore this little guy. I've had it for about a year with no technical problems. I will agree with the other reviewers that the caraffe will dribble if you don't pour quickly, and it does not stay hot long after the auto shut-off. However, this is rarely a problem for me as I am hardly ever still around 30 minutes later (must be nice!). My coffee is perfect every time, the machine is easy to clean, and it's compact and fairly stylish.
One other warning: it has a feature where you can pour a cup before it is finished brewing (the filter basket blocks the drip if you remove the caraffe), but I would not recommend doing this. When coffee brews, it does not brew at the same strength for the entire brewing cycle. The water that first goes through the coffee grounds encounter more resistance, thus spending more time going through, thus making the beginning of the pot a lot stronger than the the last of it. You really need to let the whole pot (or however many cups you are making) finish brewing before drinking the coffee. This, too, is not something I've had much problem with, as the brew cycle is really fast - 5 minutes for 2 cups. Anyway, just a little coffee tip.
Best of the 4-cuppers March 5, 2007 Catspec (VT USA) 28 out of 28 found this review helpful
Cuisinart did it again! I bought this because I wanted a coffee maker for work that had an auto shutoff. They all make coffee but so few have the shutoff. This unit shuts itself off after 1/2 hour, which is perfect - the coffee is not ruined beyond hope by then and the workplace is secure from conflagration. In addition, it makes great coffee - of course that is dependent on the coffee and the amount you put in. I like it strong. I was afraid it would spew coffee on the inside as it brewed, which is what the Melitta of almost the same design does, and I was afraid it might leak, which the Mr. Coffee tends to do. I have owned the 4-cupper in those two brands, as well as a couple others. I don't find the carafe a problem, nor do I find the water reservoir a problem. The aforementioned brands each had their own quirks as well. In fact this one has the best reservoir fill procedure of all that I have owned.
I like that it has no glitz. Just make the coffee and in half an hour it shuts down. Perfect.
Take it or leave it August 14, 2006 Doug C (Pasadena, CA) 38 out of 40 found this review helpful
I selected this item because the black base and stainless steel carafe matched nicely with my other kitchen appliances. I also figured the stainless steel carafe would be more durable than a glass one. Now that I've got it though, its a bit bothersome not to be able to see the amount of coffee in the carafe without removing the lid. Although its less likely to dribble when pouring than my previous coffee maker, you can't pour out the last spoonful or so of coffee without holding it upside down and shaking it. Its also more awkward to fill the reservoir and to see how full it is than with my previous maker. Its too bad they don't make that model anymore. I've been using it for about a month now and other than the nuisances I've already described, its worked fine and appears to be solidly built. Still, I can take it or leave it.
